In December 1978, our church was destroyed by fire. During this time, we held our worship services at Greenwood Baptist church and Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Financial gifts poured in from the community, many other towns, cities, and concerned individuals.
After months of planning, we were ready for the dedication service of the New Church. During the time of planning, we lost a very dear and faithful member, Brother Allen Boyd.
The Sunday School gave a pulpit chair in his memory. The Claussen Family donated the communion table in the honor of Mrs. Eula Winfield. Mr. Claussen donated the water fountain.
In 1982, Reverend Willie Crew came to us. He served for 15 years and we found him to be a God-sent man. Our Stewards during his ministry were: Willie N. Mickens, Taylor Ramsey, Arthur Robinson, J.W. Harris, and Lloyd Shanks. The Stewardesses were: Sallie Ramsey, Etherleen Mickens, Eunice Wilson, and Virginia West. The Trustees were: Elizabeth Hampton, Eunice Wilson, and Willie N. Mickens.
During the conference year 1985—1986, the church purchased a piano. Another goal was to install an alter. Rev. Crew donated 21 hymnals and 6 tables.
During the conference year 1986-1987, our church was blessed with four new members from the Robinson family. From this family, we have a piano player, a choir director, Brother Arthur Robinson. Mrs. Mattie Robinson was licensed to preach by Presiding Elder Gene R. Dean.
During the conference year 1988-1989, we saw great things done through Jesus Our Lord: A Family and Friends Day program, Youth Program, our First Choir Anniversary, and a musical featuring Brother Frederick Prophet in concert.
